Material – Silver

At Efva Attling, you will only find gold-plated jewelry made from recycled sterling silver and at least 18k gold. Sterling silver is an alloy – a mixture consisting of 92.5% pure silver, with the remainder copper, because 100% pure silver is usually too soft for practical use.

Material – Gold

Gold is a precious metal with a naturally yellow color, often combined with other metals to increase durability. On average, we use 14–16% palladium, a precious metal that softens the yellow tone of gold. Smaller amounts of other metals, including silver, are also mixed in, resulting in durable gold-plated jewelry.

Vermeil – The Finer Plating

Vermeil is a type of gold plating considered high-quality. Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a French word originally meaning “gilded silver” – sterling silver coated with a thick layer of real gold. To qualify as genuine vermeil, the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick and made of at least 10k gold – we use only 18k for a rich, warm tone. Vermeil is durable, hypoallergenic, and a more affordable alternative.

Care Instructions for Gold-Plated Necklaces and Jewelry

Gold-plated jewelry requires extra care, as the plated surface cannot be polished or restored. Wipe your jewelry with a soft cloth after use and ideally store necklaces, earrings, and rings in the included box. If oxidation occurs, it can be cleaned with a silver dip – rinse thoroughly with water afterward and gently dry with a soft cloth.
